Ukrteplo was established in 2011. It currently operates the largest network of biofuel boiler houses in the country: 110 facilities in 14 regions with a total capacity of 158 MW. The group's project portfolio includes bio-CHP plants, small hydroelectric power plants, and biogas plants.

Ukrteplo Group announced plans to implement a project based on the Zaplazsk Sugar Plant in May 2016. At that time, the company also planned to equip a solar power plant and produce synthesis gas.

As reported, at the end of August 2011, the Zaplazsk Sugar Plant, which was part of the Chornomorska Sugar Company, was sold at auction for UAH 25.133 million, which corresponded to the initial price. The buyer was the Kyiv-based LLC "Automobile Company "Avtotrade-service". However, in 2013, the owners of the plant decided to close the enterprise due to significant losses in 2012. At that time, the owners of the plant invested in the restoration of the enterprise, repair of buildings and equipment, subsidies to agricultural producers and infrastructure, but as a result suffered losses of about UAH 30 million.

Residents of the Lyubashivskyi district of the Odessa region attribute the ownership of the Zaplazskyi sugar plant to the deputy of the Odessa regional council, Anatoly Artemenko.
